Best Canadian Cities for Sports Fans

Canada is a beautiful country, with so much to offer both those who live there and others who simply come to visit.

It is particularly great for sports fans – when one thinks of Canada, hockey is most likely one of the first things that come to mind.

Though hockey is an important part of Great White North’s cultural fabric, it’s not the only sport the locals enjoy.

Sports fans flock to these cities, which have much to offer in the way of spectating and participating.

If you’re a sports enthusiast looking at Calgary homes for sale, you’re in luck with this city. Most notably, Calgary hosted the 1988 Winter Olympics, the first time the games were held in the country. As a result, the Canada Olympic Park is a year-round sports and recreation center in the city. World-class coaching and training facilities for high-performance athletes are within its confines, and it also serves as a spot for tourists and locals alike to ski, snowboard, ice skate, and play hockey.

You can even have the unique experience of taking a ride down the bobsled track.

The Scotiabank Saddledome is known as the loudest hockey stadium in the NHL, thanks to the raucous and supportive Calgary Flames fans. The Saddledome also hosts concerts and lacrosse games.

Football fans will want to check out McMahon Stadium, where the Calgary Stampeders play.

Speaking of Stampeders, the Calgary Stampede is a yearly rodeo and exhibition that lasts ten days and touts itself as “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.” It’s held in Sundre, which is also a great place for those who enjoy horseback riding.

The nation’s largest city has a range of sports teams that keep the games going year-round.

It’s home to the Raptors, the only team in the NBA that’s outside of the United States. If you’re lucky you might catch sight of famed rapper Drake, who is a die-hard fan of the team.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are the resident NHL team, and Major League Baseball fans will want to catch a Blue Jays game at the Rogers Centre, a stadium with a retractable roof.

The Centre is also host to the Toronto FC, a professional Major League Soccer team.

The sports don’t stop there: the Toronto Rock lacrosse team and Toronto Wolfpack Rugby team also play in the city, at Scotiabank Arena and Lamport Stadium, respectively.

One of the country’s most beloved professional teams play here, the Montreal Canadiens of the NHL. They boast 24 Stanley Cups, more championships than any other franchise.

Montréal Olympic Stadium was the hub of the 1976 Summer Olympics, and to this day is a multi-use facility that has hosted numerous teams over the years.

The MLS team CF Montreal plays home matches on the track and field site of the Olympic Stadium.

The Alouettes football team plays here, and racing fans can take in the Montreal Grand Prix each year. The city also has other F1 racing events throughout the year.
